Dental Health Care

Last Saturday, we had our Dental Health Care Class as part of the Basic Childcare Course (KAAK). The dentist who spoke that day told us that we had to send our kids to the dentist for check up when they are 6 months old - when they get their first teeth. (I can hear people asking 'so young?') Well, yeah.. as soon as they get their first tooth, you should clean their teeth by wiping it with a towel.

Nevertheless, it may not be practical or feasible to send them for check up when they are only 6 months old because it might cost RM30 just for check up! So, you can send them when they are older - about 2 years old.

When they are 2, you should teach them to brush their teeth by demonstrating to them. Get them to brush with you. When they are done, just say something like "Come, let mommy check if it's clean" and "Oh.. there's still some dirt here.. let me clean that for you" and you can brush the whole thing again so that it is clean, but the main thing is to let them start from young and get them accustomed to it.

After viewing all the grusome pics, I decided to go for a check up myself tmr at the local dental clinic. Public sector clinic, of course. I heard that they are sometimes better and definitely much cheaper. Filling is something like RM2, and check up is something like RM1. For pregnant mothers, check up is free ^^
